I've been wondering why anyone would like the Opera web browser. I've tried it, and dumped it less than an hour later for Firefox. Why you say? Because it trys to do too many things and has useless features that make Opera a bloated piece of junk.
Who the hell would use voice navigation for a freaking browser? Saying "Opera next link" over and over again until Opera puts focus on the right link doesn't sound very appealing to me. Besides, wouldn't it be so much easier and faster to just use the keyboard if you hate the mouse so much?
And why on earth would I want to chat on IRC using Opera? Its a web browser, not a flipping chat client. I'll use a dedicated chat program thank you very much. Not some half arsed implementation within a bloated browser.
Bittorrent. Everybody loves bittorrent right? But not when its in a browser. Who wants to leave a browser open for 6 hours straight seeding a torrent? Not only that, the bittorrent support is probably half arsed too.
Don't even get me started with the little widget things they're including in Opera 9. My question is why? Konfabulator does a fine job and probably has a much larger development community behind it. Personally, I find widgets annoying as heck so I find no use for it.
Why is Opera trying to do so many different things? It's a web browser, so why can't it just do what its supposed to do and nothing else? My theory is that they are trying to take over the world by replacing every program we have and invading our desktops. Too bad its not going to work since Google is going to take over the world.
I use Opera because it is a fantastic browser. Compared to Firefox, it never lags with 50 tabs open (unlike Firefox, which becomes unresponsive). It is blazing fast, both loading pages and starting up.
The voice navigation is for accessibility users who do not necessarily have the ability to control a keyboard or a mouse.
IRC is included for a ease of use for the user. You don’t have to use it if you don’t need it. It does not make Opera more bloated any way.
I leave the browser open all day and bittorrent would be just right to fit into Opera. FYI, the bittorrent support is excellent.
Do you hate Google for inventing Gmail when everyone was using hotmail? If so, then I can understand your reason for hating Opera for its widgets.
