Google testing another new interface?

Google new homepage

Look what I ran into while surfing the interweb. I think its a new page layout they're testing and they show it every once in a while. When you click on "More you can do with Google" a menu appears with links too services such as Google Images that you would normally find right above the search bar.

Although I'm not a big fan of the current interface, I would have to say this is a step in the wrong direction. I think having links right above the search bar is much more convenient.

Sorry if this is old news, but I've never seen this one before. :)

  1. the current interface is half the reason google are so popular..

Did you just happen to forget to include the url? something like this is done in bluefish in a couple seconds.

  2. Links above, links below – I can’t see how the word “interface” applies to where the links are. For my money, Google should let you mash up the whole page.

If I could pop links in to my favorite things (various logins, etc) and some custom RSS and maybe some video or news search results, I’d make it my home page in a minute. Even if they forced a right side ad bar on me.

  3. You may want to see this post I wrote (on WordPress.com) about how a Semantic Web (i.e. Web 3.0) version of Wikipedia (called Ontoworld) will replace google as the ultimate answer machine.

    :)
